Thinking about a facelift…on September 2, 2010 at 2:23 pm
I’ve mentioned in the past that I’ve been thinking about redesigning zombieroomie.com and I’ve had a few ideas that I’ve been playing with and I’m going to have a complete redesign hopefully near the end of October… for those of you playing along at home, that’s the one-year anniversary of Zombie Roomie.
There are a few main issues I want to address in the redesign…
I want to make the site feel more connected to the world that Zombie Roomie is in. Right now, it’s just red with some blood splatters hidden around… seemingly from a victim of George. The plan is to make the site feel a bit more like the apartment building that the guys live in and find elements from that to add character to the site instead of just a big red site that could be home to any number of other comics out there…. zombieroomie.com should feel unique, it should feel like Zombie Roomie.
I’d like to better shape people’s first impression of what they think they’re getting into when they come to the site. I’ve had several people mention that they don’t expect George to be, well… George. They’re expecting him to be a mindless shambler or something straight out of a Romero flick. I want to find ways to help people understand that the comic isn’t so dark all the time and that I try to make it funny. One thing that I think that gives a different impression of what kind of comic ZR is might be the logo. To that end, I’ve been playing with a new logo idea…
It has some of the same thought behind it that the original logo has, but this one is based more on the characters in the comic than just your standard zombie… since ya know, George isn’t your standard zombie. It’s much more light-hearted and I think it actually fits ZR better than the current logo.
If there’s anything special you’d like to see in a new version of the site lemme know. I’ve had some talk with some Siege members about changing the “share this” stuff around to include links to the big services out there, but I’m not sure how many readers actually share my comic and what services they’d like easier access to share with.
