I’ve been playing with how I color backgrounds and background objects. I color the lines of background objects a darker version of the object and I think it makes the figures pop out more.
Going back through the archives, one of my biggest problems was busy backgrounds. This new way of doing the background coloring seems to help out greatly in that fashion.
I’m liking it.
I’m also playing with some more shading/shadow effects and want to continue doing so.

That background idea is pretty good. You know it’s there, but like… in the background.
Yeah, I’ve seen it done elsewhere but, putting it to use on my own work was something fun to do. I’m going to continue to do so.
I agree. Panel two is awesome (and so is the site redesign, by the way). I find once you’ve eaten (or have had eaten) your eyelids, staring contests are so much easier.
Thanks. I had to play around with my panel template to get that panel setup correct.
I have a file I keep that is my template for the strip with all the layers I use grouped into their proper layer order and what not.
Inside that file is a smart object of the url/copyright text and the panel borders. I cut up the 2nd panel border there.
Convoluted to be sure, but it worked.
I like panel 2 myself
Panel 2 was a fun thing to set up.
Thanks.
I really like the layout of this strip! You nailed that 3rd panel!
Thank you.
I’m proud of this strip for a few reasons.
It’s different than I’ve done in the past in terms of layout. The figures are pretty cartoony. The figures pop from the background pretty well. And the coloring is pretty snazzy.
