Due to popular demand, the “A Zombie’s Survival Guide” comics are being done with the colored line art and faux printed look.
One of the nice things about doing one panel comics is I can have the characters drawn really big which is great for me as I love having them not have to be all teeny and crammed into a little bitty panel. I’m able to get longer and more robust lines to make up the figures. It’s something that makes me happy… don’t know how much seeing them bigger excites you guys…
Another benefit is I get to try out things I’m hesitant to do in a normal four panel comic, like this colored line art. My buddy Trevor Halligan from Shyeah! started doing his regular comic in colored line art and while I think it’s a great thing for Shyeah!, I’m not sure if it’d work as well for Zombie Roomie. Thoughts? Right now, I’m keeping it in these AZ’sSG comics… but, if there’s a demand to see how the normal four panels would work I might try it sometime.
And I get to draw Zoey more often… which is something that is difficult to pull off when the guys are off somewhere around the world looking for a soul…

Holy balls!
I can’t believe I never discovered transparency lock before. That is one of the most amazing tools ever created! Thanks, John!
It’s handy.
You know, for a walking rotten corpse he has exceptionally great hygiene and clean clothes…more so than most living people I see!
He takes good care of himself.
The strip looks great today. The colored line art works really good on the single panels, but I’m not sure how well it will come across on the 4 panels for Zombie Roomie without seeing it. You might try taking a past one and change the line work to colored lines and do a side by side.
I love the hygiene approach for this one. You know it’s gotta be rough for a zombie in the heat, winters gotta be the season of choice for them. :)
The problem with winter is if they’re not careful, they’ll freeze solid.
A little moisturizer might go a long way as well! just sayin! o.O
He does have the lip creases around his mouth.
Great SG today. Graphically fantastic, and I’m glad you chose to do the colored line art again (Chainsaw body spray… choice). I personally like having a slightly different style for these features, and then going back to the black line art for the others, but ZR would look great all around, I’m sure, if you decided to go all colored with the line art.
And speaking of colored line art, what is your process? Do you have the colors selected in advance that you ink for each differently colored part, or do you ink all in one color first, and then go through and select pieces of line art and convert them to colors later?
I do the comic as normal then color it. I duplicate the color layer and adjust it so it comes out darker which gives me the colors I’ll need to pick from.
Afterward I’ll lock the line art’s transparency and color the appropriate areas.
